After successfully finishing a three weeks training course in Phnom Penh all 22 participants of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal Fellowship Programme (11 from legal background and 11 from outreach) did a 16 days study tour to Germany and The Hague, Netherland from 28th May to 13th June 2010 on coping with the past and reconciliation.
During the study tour to Germany and the Hague, courts, prisons, a former concentration camp, memorials, documentation centres and treatment centres for traumatised person were visited. To learn and exchange German's experiences of dealing with its own difficult past and to visit the international courts in The Hague has widened the perspective of the Cambodian participants regarding their own history.
The overall goal of the Cambodian Khmer Rouge Tribunal (KRT) Fellowship Programme is to support the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) and to promote its legacy, and thus contribute to reconciliation and peace building in Cambodia. |
