The program of the German Development Cooperation on behalf of the Federal German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development within the city development sector has the objective to contribute to a socially, economically and ecologically sustainable management of the urban infrastructure. At present, the focus of German support lies on the sewerage and solid waste systems in medium sized provincial towns and essentially comprises three layers:
  • Technical assistance and policy advice to the Ministry of Construction on the national level.
  • ODA-loans for investments in the sewerage and solid waste systems.
  • Technical assistance for capacity building and training of the municipal enterprises responsible for these systems.
