| it@foss - Free and Open Source Software in South-East Asia |
|
Establish a free und open source software community of developers to promote a communication infrastructure based on open source technology
Overview: In the ASEAN countries, the demand for open source based IKT infrastructure systems is increasing considerably. Free and Open Source Software is understood to mean open source software for which no license is required and which is therefore reasonably priced. Such software products can be manufactured and maintained by local companies in the local language. They directly support the industry and administration within the developing countries and prevent software piracy. However, in many countries there is a lack of software developers with FOSS know-how and many decision-makers are not yet aware of these innovative software solutions.
The project promotes and supports free and open source solutions (FOSS) and their developers, and thereby assists in the creation of innovative software solutions and business models that are within the means of developing countries and are sustainable. This enables SMEs to use software legally and opens up interesting approaches for the development of new business and activity areas. In national and regional conferences and workshops, software developers, SMEs and representatives of Government and administrative authorities are therefore trained in the development and setting up of open source systems.
