Support the development of (technology-oriented) business incubators at the national and regional level
Overview: In the last few years, countries in South-east Asia have made great progress in independent technological research and are investing more and more in their own technological and scientific development. However, this trend has not yet resulted in the development of their own marketable products, and as a consequence in the strengthening of SMEs and in the creation of jobs. The establishment of "Technology Business Incubators" (TBI) in scientific institutions and centres of technology supports the transfer of technological know-how into marketable products. The countries of South-east Asia are attempting to implement this international approach to the promotion of innovative technology-oriented products. However, frequently a top-down approach is used and large projects are planned that are not oriented towards the actual market. There is a clear need for capacity building of decision-makers. There is also a lack of experts who can plan and implement TBI successfully.
Short-term training courses, e-learning, and on-the-job supervision supports the establishment of TBIs. This is complemented by staff-exchange programs with Thailand through internships lasting several weeks. In addition, an annual conference on the subject area "Promotion of Innovative Entrepreneurship through TBI" is conducted as the basis of the exchange of information and experience between countries and for the development of a TBI network. The network is supported through the InWEnt Internet platform "Global Campus 21".
Target Group: National and regional decision-makers from the fields of technology promotion and regional economic development, as well as selected experts in the TBI development teams
